Services

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a system of healing that looks at the whole person. It offers not just relief from symptoms, but seeks to address the underlying cause.

Every case is unique and requires a tailored approach.

See below for services.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific acupoints on the body. Stimulating these helps to encourage the smooth flow of Qi (energy). In Traditional Chinese Medicine an imbalance in energy flow may contribute to pain, stress, fatigue, and other health issues.

One of the amazing effects of Acupuncture, is that it helps the body drop into a ‘rest and repair mode’. This has beneficial and regulating effect on the nervous system. The body’s natural painkillers and anti-inflammatory agents can be released - facilitating a healing response.

Ongoing studies support the effectiveness of acupuncture for a variety of conditions. Furthermore, a recent systematic review found strong evidence for acupuncture’s role in managing pain, stress, and other health concerns.

Acupuncture is deemed safe in the hands of a well trained practitioner (Chinese Medicine Board of Australia registered). However, in very rare instances adverse effects might occur. Any cautions or contra-indications with be discussed with you prior to your treatment.

TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE

TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE incorporates a combination of techniques in addition to Acupuncture. Some of these may include:

MOXIBUSTION

A relaxing and warming technique involving the burning of the herb mugwort over certain acupuncture points. This imparts a pleasant warmth to the area, increasing blood and qi flow.

GUASHA

A friction technique traditionally using a porcelain spoon to increase blood flow and to clear excess heat. I also use Rose quartz and Jade guasha tools in my practice, as they are very effective for treating the muscles of the face.

CUPPING

The use of round glass cups to apply suction to the skin. These are used to promote blood flow and relieve tight muscles and fascia.

DIETARY THERAPY

Tailored nutrition which involves dietary recommendations based on the season, your constitution, environment and unique health concerns.

YANG SHENG

Self-care advice: diet, exercise and lifestyle strategies, based on TCM principles. Yang Sheng (to ‘Nurture Life’) provides tools to supplement your treatment at home and to help maintain optimal health.

CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

The prescribing of herbs either in pill or granulated form can form an important part of your treatment.

Traditionally, herbal formulas will contain several herbs that are designed to work in synergy with each other.

Depending on your health care needs, I will prescribe either pre-formulated pills or create a granule prescription to suit your specific requirements.

A Herbal Medicine consultation can be included in your overall health assessment and acupuncture session, or booked as a standalone treatment.

Herbal preparations are at an additional cost based on the preparation type (granules, pills, liniments) and dosage (grams and length of supply).
